Roadmap

Djehooty stands out primarily as an innovative document manager, specifically designed for genealogists. Priority is given to developing advanced features for organizing, enriching, and cross-referencing digital archives, rather than immediately replicating traditional genealogy tools.

Current development focuses on:

  • document management;
  • adding information and leveraging metadata;
  • identifying and linking people and places;

Traditional genealogy features (events, trees, GEDCOM import/export, etc.) will be integrated gradually, once the documentary foundations are consolidated.

The roadmap is open: any suggestions or contributions from the community are welcome to help the project evolve.

Future features​

This list is shared for informational purposes. It is not exhaustive and will be enriched based on community needs and Djehooty's evolution.

Features planned for the short and medium term​

  • Support for locations and visualization on map backgrounds such as IIIF and OpenStreetMap
  • Downloading documents from the Internet via URL
  • Support for IIIF format to download documents from institutions and automatically populate their metadata and attributions
  • Video support (with automatic thumbnail generation and video player integration in the viewer)
  • Audio document support (audio player integration in the viewer)
  • PDF document support (PDF reader integration in the viewer)
  • Word/LibreOffice document support
  • Interface internationalization and translation into multiple languages (English / French)
  • Document transcription support
  • Advanced search engine

Documents

  • Management of correspondence (letters, postcards, etc.) by easily identifying sender, recipient, and date
  • Automatic text recognition (OCR) on scanned documents
  • Automatic face recognition on photos and videos
  • Automatic transcription of audio and video files
  • Document scanner integration to scan documents directly into Djehooty and facilitate their classification
  • Contextual annotation in videos (identification of people, places, events, etc.)

  • Advanced document annotation (text, images, videos)

  • Multi-user access rights and collaboration management system
  • Integration of collaborative transcription tools for handwritten documents

Accessibility

  • Native support for alternative text (alt text) for files and documents
  • Improved accessibility and navigation adapted for people with visual impairments

Genealogy

  • Classic genealogy features: GEDCOM import/export, genealogical tree visualization and editing, event management and individual information
  • Graphical visualization of interactions and links between individuals, families, organizations, etc.
  • Management of multiple genealogical trees to enable cross-referencing or independent research on different families or branches
  • Secure archive sharing with family
  • Generation of documents and books to showcase and transmit research work
